30 French retailers announced plans to accept bitcoin at over 25,000 sales points, by early 2020.
Some of the companies that have pledged their support include Boulanger, Foot Locker, Decathlon, Conforama, Intersport, Cultura, Norauto, and Sephora.
The pro-bitcoin move by these companies was announced during Paris Retail Week, on Sept. 24.
The payments will be facilitated by point-of-sale technology provider Global POS, in partnership with EasyWallet.
“This is an important symbolic step in the evolution of payment methods in France,” said Stéphane Djiane, CEO and founder of Global POS.
“However, more than a symbol, what we bring to 25,000 outlets is the ability to safely enter the world of Economy 3.0.”
Dijiane plans to add support for altcoins in the future.
The bitcoin will instantly convert to euros once the transaction is complete.
The conversions will be handled by Deskoin and Savitar, who are in the application process for Digital Asset Service Provider accreditations under France’s PACTE Act.
